Off Broadway — billboards, not actors

The Travois headquarters is located next to a busy street, Broadway Boulevard, in the Crossroads Arts District of Kansas City, Mo. The Crossroads Arts District is a very vibrant area, full of art galleries and local businesses.

Two billboards sit next to our building, facing Broadway, and thousands of commuters see them every day as they drive north and south. We don’t advertise locally, so David Bland and Marianne Roos, the owners of Travois, decided to donate the advertising space to local nonprofits for six-month “leases.” We are proud to support these exceptional organizations:

BoysGrow is a year-round farming and business program that provides mentoring, entrepreneurship skills and positive male role models for inner city boys ages 12–15. Here are some thank you letters from the boys in the program.

Executive Director John Gordon appreciated the opportunity and said, “With the generous help of Travois, we’ve been able to further the message of who we are and what we are trying to accomplish with our Kansas City youth. I can’t tell you how many people stopped us and commented on the billboard.  And for a newly established nonprofit, being recognized is very important.”

Billboards by The Children’s Place are currently on view. The Children’s Place works to meet the developmental and mental health needs of the youngest survivors of abuse, neglect and trauma. It provides specialized services and family support within a safe and caring environment.

The Kansas City Art Institute will advertise starting in July. KCAI, a four-year college of art and design, will promote its evening, weekend and summer community art classes for everyone.
