ESGs, HIPs and more lessons at the Impact Investing Summit

This spring, Travois Chairman David Bland and I attended the Impact Investing Summit in Huntington Beach, CA.

The summit brought together investors who want to make a positive difference in the world with fund managers who want to help them. Sessions featured speakers from pension funds and major banking and investment firms with an emphasis on  “ESG” — investing in companies that improve the Environment, advance important Social goals or foster improved Governance.

We were also pleased to learn more about Human Impact + Profit, or HIP, Investing. R. Paul Herman and his HIP team rank businesses on their HIP quotient, showing higher performing companies how to advance their human, social and environmental goals for superior returns.

Travois has great stories to tell about the impact new and rehabilitated housing has on tribal families – allowing them to move out of overcrowded trailers so everyone has shelter in a stable home, children get a good night’s sleep and can then pay attention in school, and parents can prepare healthy meals in a modern kitchen.

Travois also has stories to share about how a salmon processing plant in Alaska or a new electrical substation in New Mexico creates jobs and stronger communities.
