Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. The drive from Milwaukee to Keshena was a cold one, but I didn’t mind. The Menominee Indian Tribe specifically, and the state of Wisconsin as a whole, are places very close to Travois’ heart. Our company has been successful because the tribe and its neighbors have been successful.
The Menominee Tribe has been successful in using the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program to finance new and rehabilitated homes for many tribal families. Tribes across Wisconsin have used both the LIHTC and New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) programs to fund new health care, dental care and affordable housing projects. The tribes of the Great Lakes region have been leaders in the world of innovative community development financing.
It is always encouraging — if a bit chilly — to be out on the road and see so much evidence of so much progress made. The progressive and forward thinking of the leadership of the Menominee Tribe and so many other tribal nations in the region has resulted in new housing and economic opportunity for Native American communities across the state.
