Wisconsin awards credits to two tribal LIHTC projects

The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) publicly announced the 2013 Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) awardees last month.  Two tribal projects were included in the list of recipients – Red Cliff Rehab I ($648,316 credits reserved) and Lac Courte Oreilles Homes III ($364,653 credits reserved). Of the 59 applicants, WHEDA awarded more than $11.5 million to 23 projects.

Red Cliff Rehab I, developed by Red Cliff Housing Authority, is a resubmission of the housing authority’s 2012 LIHTC application that did not receive an allocation of credits. The project includes the acquisition and rehabilitation of 40 units (a combination of duplex and single family homes) within the Old Housing, New Housing and Hillside neighborhoods. In addition, the project will add new playgrounds within each community and rehabilitate the housing authority’s office and provide new community gathering and meeting space. Targeted for families at or below 60 percent Area Median Income (AMI), the project will serve as a much needed boost to the community.

Lac Courte Oreilles Homes III will be the Lac Courte Oreilles Housing Authority’s third LIHTC project. This project, which is also targeted for families at or below 60 percent AMI, includes the acquisition and rehabilitation of 24 units within the Lac Courte Oreilles Reservation in Hayward, WI. The photo above is from LCO’s second project.

Travois would like to congratulate both housing authorities on their LIHTC reservations. We look forward to seeing the transformations unfold!
