Travois raises capital for housing and economic development in Indigenous communities, advocates for our clients and provides educational, architectural, compliance and asset management services. Travois strives to improve the lives of Indigenous peoples by providing the tools and resources to create healthy, affordable and sustainable communities.
We value diversity of thought, background, experience and opinion. We create a culture of empowerment and promote an environment that embraces different perspectives.
We have a great mission and our office culture is just as cool. A renovated historic warehouse near downtown Kansas City, Mo., is where we call home. (If you’re familiar with the area, we’re in the Crossroads Arts District.) In 2010, our in-house architects and other consultants created a new, modern office environment. We added dozens of stand-alone offices, a spacious kitchen, group meeting spaces, a daycare, an exercise area, and a rooftop deck. Above the deck on a steel canopy, we installed a 75-kilowatt photovoltaic system with 330 solar panels.
Our employees enjoy unlimited PTO, a casual dress code, the ability to work from home, catered complimentary lunches once a week, the option to bring dogs to work, and Travois sponsored community outreach, volunteer opportunities, and social events.
We have generous compensation and retirement benefit packages and employer paid health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance. We offer 12 weeks of paid parental leave and have a licensed on-site daycare facility. We encourage professional development, and cover the cost for on-going continuing education, testing and certifications.

Current Opportunities
Project Manager
We are expanding our affordable housing team with the addition of a Project Manager who will be responsible for managing a portfolio of Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) clients, ensuring the successful financing and development of affordable housing projects in Tribal communities.
Key responsibilities include marketing to potential and repeat customers, developing relationships with state allocating agencies, monitoring the Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) process, and preparing and submitting funding applications. Funding sources include but are not limited to LIHTC, the Affordable Housing Program, Indian Community Development Block Grant, and Capital Magnet Fund funding programs.
Another key component of the role is to collaborate with investor partners to facilitate the purchase of the Tribal developer’s LIHTC allocation. Project Managers lead the closing process between Tribal developers, equity investors, attorneys, architects, and other stakeholders so that the project can achieve financial closing and construct quality, affordable housing in Tribal communities.
Project Managers work closely with internal teams and external partners on rewarding, fast-paced, and challenging projects with strict deadlines.

Tribal Internship Program
Travois proudly sponsors interns from Tribal colleges and programs across the country. Through our paid Tribal internship program, participants gain knowledge about housing and economic development in Native communities. Specifically, they may support our teams in the development and management of Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) projects and/or New Markets Tax Credit projects. The intern may also participate in administrative tasks or other initiatives developed by our management team
The internship program lasts 10-12 weeks, and participants are expected to work 30-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. A $500 monthly stipend for housing and transportation is available for interns who relocate, travel or commute to our Kansas City office.

We have selected a candidate for the 2024 summer program. However, we are always eager to hear from prospective candidates for future opportunities.
Travois Daycare
We offer full-time, in-house daycare for Travois staff. We are not actively hiring full-time daycare employees at this time, but we are always looking for dedicated, creative, hard-working individuals to fill in as a substitute teacher periodically, or join us in the future as we have positions available. We offer competitive pay, flexible hours, and a positive work culture. For full-time caregivers, we have great benefits. Candidates must be BLS/CPR trained prior to start, and a background check is required. Experience in child care preferred.
