What are some fun neighborhoods to check out while I’m in San Francisco?
San Francisco is a city of distinct, diverse neighborhoods ready to explore.
South of Market (SoMa)
This is where our host hotel is located! Home to many of the city’s museums, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is right across the way from our hotel, along with the Yerba Buena Gardens.
The Mission District
Here you’ll find amazing Mexican food, lively restaurants and bars, and beautiful Dolores Park. Grab a picnic for a perfect sunny San Francisco day!
North Beach
Home of San Francisco’s Little Italy! Amazing Italian restaurants, bustling streets with multiple parks, and right near Coit Tower — famous for its beautiful art and stunning city and bay views if you go to the top!
Haight-Ashbury
The epicenter of the 1960s hippie counterculture movement, today you can still find vintage shops, lots of tie dye, record stores, street musicians, and cool Victorian homes. Bonus: Golden Gate Park is just a few blocks away!
Chinatown
One of the oldest in the U.S., it offers vibrant street life, markets, and excellent Chinese cuisine at every turn.
Hayes Valley
Lively and lined with boutiques and restaurants, Hayes Valley is known for its culinary scene. A highly walkable, cool area right in the heart of San Francisco!
Hot tip: you won’t hear locals calling it “San Fran”- they say “SF” or “The City”.
What are some things to see and do?
Watch the sea lions and Pier 39 while you soak in bay views. Convenient access to the Alcatraz ferries and Ghiradelli Square for some famous chocolate. While this is a lively, energetic area, this is not the place to go for locally-owned spots. Although touristy, many see if as an essential part of a first-time trip to San Francisco.
Catch the ferry from this building to its many stops! Or just come to hang out: the inside of the building is packed with local vendors, food and drink. A fun way to spend an afternoon!
San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
Across the courtyard from our hotel!
“Rooted in Place: California Native Art” and “Arts of Indigenous America” exhibits will be showing during the conference.
The Giants are in town during the conference if you’d like to catch a ball game! Oracle Park is a 20 minute straight shot down 3rd street if you’re up for a walk. Or hop in a Waymo or Uber for a quick ride!
