Advocacy & Education
Travois is committed to promoting access to affordable housing and economic development in Indian Country.
We monitor and provide comments on legislation that may affect the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) programs and funding for American Indian programs. We submit comments to state LIHTC allocating agencies during the Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) review process, and we have a seat on the New Markets Tax Credit Coalition board of directors.
In 2012, Travois Chairman David W. Bland was invited to testify at a hearing before Congress, along with the National American Indian Housing Council, and we welcome opportunities to educate state and federal leaders about legislation that could help improve opportunities for Native communities. Watch an archived video of the hearing on the website of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs.
We provide trainings on the Low Income Housing Tax Credit and New Markets Tax Credit programs, grant opportunities, the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA), energy efficiency and green building methods.
