12th Annual Travois Conference – photos

Sept. 10-13, 2012
Casino Del Sol
Tucson, Ariz.

The conference theme was “Building Healthy Communities.” Attendees heard stories of successful projects: new and rehabilitated homes for tribal members and economic development projects that provide desperately needed jobs and services in Indian Country.

Travois welcomed a record number of attendees — nearly 230 — to the conference, held at the beautiful Casino Del Sol Resort, Spa and Conference Center, owned and operated by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. Nearly 50 different tribes and tribal organizations sent representatives, and attendees also included sponsors, vendors, artists, Travois staff and other guest speakers.

Attendees engaged in many Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) and asset management sessions, toured the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s second LIHTC project, enjoyed appetizers at a welcome reception, sang at karaoke night, walked a mile for health, listened to a heartfelt keynote address by Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills, toured the Pascua Yaqui Education Center site (which was partially funded with New Markets Tax Credits), enjoyed a lot of delicious food and more!

Travois would like to thank the Pascua Yaqui Tribe for hosting the event, providing a welcome from Pascua Yaqui’s chairman, helping to arrange the tours, coordinating the Pascua Yaqui Color Guard to open and close the conference, and arranging a blessing from the Kolencia Oficio Achalim group. The dates and location for the 2013 conference will be announced in the next few months!
