Colville Homes II awarded Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award

Travois would like to congratulate the Colville Indian Housing Authority (CIHA) for being honored as this year’s Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award winner in the Rural Housing category.

Awards are presented to the most outstanding Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) properties in six categories. Projects are judged on location, services provided to the residents, unique design, community support, financing and cost containment. The Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition (AHTCC)administers the awards, and the program is in its 18th year. Travois nominated CIHA for this honor.

The Colville Homes II project created 20 new two-, three- and four-bedroom single-family homes and was part of the Buttercup Lane Housing Development that includes seven additional homes, a community facility and a playground on the Colville Indian Reservation. The project offered more than beautiful homes and amenities — it provided money-saving, energy-efficient homes to its residents.

The green features of the homes include water conserving appliances and fixtures, Energy Star appliances, green roofing material, permeable walkways and driveways, passive solar design and solar-panel-ready units. These features earned the project an Evergreen Sustainable Development Standards (ESDS) certification.

After receiving the news, CIHA Executive Director Elena Bassett said: “What a wonderful award, especially to see all those other cities that were nominated — Chicago, Ill., Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Honolulu, Hawaii. That really shows the big picture of the national level. Thank you for the belief in CIHA and for all the hard work you do for us in Indian Country. Keep up the good work! My board members will be as honored as I am.”

CIHA representatives will receive the award at a Capitol Hill luncheon ceremony on June 21 in Washington, D.C. For more information about the program, click here.
