Casey Cline has been a project coordinator for Travois since November 2011. In her position, she helps tribes/Tribally Designated Housing Entities to acquire the funding needed to build or renovate low income housing on their lands.
Casey answered a few questions about herself to share with all of our readers.
- What education and/or certifications do you have? I have a bachelor’s in business, a master’s in business administration and a Juris Doctor. I’m a licensed attorney in both Kansas and Missouri, but I thoroughly enjoy my non-lawyer role here at Travois.
- How do your past experiences help you in your current position? My legal background has made me very detail-oriented (a necessity for the stringent state tax credit application requirements) and comes in handy when looking over all of the legal documents needed to close a project with an equity investor.
- What places in Indian Country have you enjoyed visiting and why? My clients are mostly in Arizona, New Mexico and Wisconsin. I’ve visited each state several times and enjoy different things about each: Arizona always has great weather, every meal in New Mexico comes with sopapillas and honey, and Wisconsin has the nicest people.
- What is one of your favorite housing projects that you have worked on and why? San Carlos Homes VI. It’s the first project that I’ve personally taken from application, to closing, to construction. It’s really neat seeing the projects come to life!
- What did you want to be as a kid? In my own words as an 8-year-old: “A garage cleaner-outer.” I guess I really enjoyed running the squeegee when we cleaned out our garage as a family. Luckily this “dream” was short lived, and I set my sights on business and law instead.
- Do you have a hidden talent? I started sewing earlier this year, but I’m not sure I’m up to a level where it can be considered a “talent” yet.
- Many Travois staff members are animal lovers. Do you have a pet? We have a 100-lb. deaf Great Dane named Belle. She’s been to the office a few times, including Halloween, where she was dressed up like a jack-o-lantern. (See photo above!)
- What do you like to do when you aren’t working? Spend time with my daughter, read, bake, and ride horses.
- What is your favorite thing to do in Kansas City? See Broadway shows at the outdoor theatre, Starlight.
- What kind of music do you like? What is your favorite TV show of all time? Favorite movie? My radio is usually set to country; Duck Dynasty; Pride & Prejudice
