From the Rural Innovation Fund to the Capital Magnet Fund and the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, the San Carlos Housing Authority (SCHA) of Peridot, AZ, has had great success finding additional resources to help meet the enormous need for quality and affordable housing for the San Carlos Apache Tribe.
We were thrilled to learn last week that San Carlos was awarded a $2.1 million Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) – its second ICDBG award in two years!
This grant will allow SCHA to rehabilitate an additional 47 single-family homes for tribal members. Once complete, the project will create positive ripple effects throughout the San Carlos Apache Tribe:
- The improved housing will require fewer financial, time and personnel resources, and the San Carlos Housing Authority can then direct these efforts to more pressing problems with other housing.
- Nearly 20 new construction jobs will provide much-needed employment in the area
- Perhaps most importantly, tribal families who live in the homes will have enhanced living environments, safer homes with improved air quality and will save money on utility costs from the improved energy-efficiency measures. We are proud to count SCHA as a client and to have worked on both successful ICDBG applications and seven Low Income Housing Tax Credit applications. Congratulations, SCHA, and keep up the great work!
