QHA Homes # 2

Winterhaven, California 92283

QHA Homes #2 received an award of Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs) from the California Tax Credit Allocation Commission (CTCAC) in the 2019 first round.

As developer, Quechan Housing Authority (QHA) will rehabilitate homes in the Ironwood Subdivision on the Fort Yuma Indian Reservation in Winterhaven, CA.

The 38 homes are intended for large families. 19 homes, which have three bedrooms and one bathroom, will be rehabilitated and receive a second bathroom. And 19 homes will have four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

This is the first time CTCAC awarded two tribal projects in the same round!

As architect, Travois Design will incorporate several green building techniques to help lower energy use and costs. Each home will receive a new solar array.

The rehabbed homes will have at least a 20% improvement over current energy use.

QHA will also rehab an on-site 1,600-square-foot community building. It will receive a new façade, covered overhangs and a patio. QHA will also upgrade a playground and basketball courts.

Once complete, residents will have access to services like adult education, job training and after-school programs for children at no cost.
