Affordable Housing & Economic Development Conference free to tribal staff members

The 14th Annual Travois Indian Country Affordable Housing & Economic Development Conference will be held on Nov. 3-6, 2014 at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, Calif. This educational conference provides detailed instruction on how American Indian tribes can attract private investment funds for housing and economic development. This year, thanks to generous sponsor support, employees of tribally designated housing entities, tribes, Alaska Native groups, Native Hawaiian organizations and Native-owned businesses can attend free of charge.

Travois staff members, experienced tribal developers and other industry professionals will give tips and discuss best practices for affordable housing development, the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program, economic development, the New Markets Tax Credit program, compliance, architectural design and construction monitoring.

Photographer Matika Wilbur (Swinomish and Tulalip Tribes) will give the keynote presentation on Project 562, a national documentary project dedicated to capturing contemporary Native America. Matika has visited 171 tribal nations photographing exquisite portraits and collecting extraordinary stories.

Tribal staff members who work in housing and economic development are encouraged to attend. This includes executive directors, occupancy and resident services staff, board members, tribal chairmen and women, tribal council members, economic development staff, tribal college presidents and administrators, and Native American business owners.
