More than 50% of the energy we use in our office is offset by our rooftop solar panels. In addition to implementing energy saving measures where we can, in 2021 we offset the balance with Renewable Energy Credits (RECS).
We purchased our RECS and Carbon Offsets to cover all of our emissions through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF), a 501(c)(3), and supported its Tribal Renewable Energy Fund which provides much needed energy independence, resilience, and reduced energy costs to tribal nations while also supporting hands-on workforce development and local STEM education.
We are glad to have found an organization that can help us meet both our carbon neutral goals and fulfill our mission to help Indigenous communities thrive.
2021 numbers:
Our carbon footprint reduced by 52% in 2020. A return to more office occupancy and limited business travel resumed in 2021, yet we remained 22% under our 2019 baseline.
We plan to continue to balance the need for team collaboration and client engagement with our carbon footprint reduction goals. Other ways we work toward our goals is continued recycling of paper, plastic and glass, the use of non-toxic cleaning products and composting food waste, paper waste, coffee grounds, and other compostable materials.
