Matt Ovel
Architectural Designer II | Travois Design
I joined the design team at Travois to discover new meaning in my work. By helping serve the needs of Native communities, I’m privileged and grateful to use my professional skills in a highly worthwhile way. At Travois, I design homes and community buildings with a focus on the human experience of space, both interior and exterior.
Embracing and learning about each client’s unique culture and heritage are my greatest skills. These skills help me create a stronger understanding of our clients’ needs and goals as well as meaningfully and respectfully incorporate their history and symbolism into their architecture.
I originally studied philosophy at Regis University in Denver, where I was a varsity golfer, before transferring to Kansas State University and earning a master’s degree in interior architecture and product design.
On weekends, you’ll probably find me on a disc golf course because I’m involved with the Kansas City Disc Golf Club. In fact, my perfect day would involve a morning cup of coffee and drawing with my cat before playing a round of disc golf with friends then ending the day with takeout and a movie in the evening.
