Dear 14th Annual Travois Conference attendees,
We had an amazing time in San Diego last week and hope you did too! We wanted to send a quick thank you for all of the great connections made, memories created, and laughs shared.
Let’s recap the week. Why not? I’d love to relive it again! (And for those of you who didn’t attend, we hope to see you next year!)
First – sunny SoCal! Our weather was great. It was perfect for walking around the Gaslamp Quarter to find delicious eats!
Monday’s pre-session was the first of its kind. We discussed using the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program in California and Nevada. For those of you who attended, was it helpful? Did you enjoy the extra session?
Monday evening we were able to check a sightseeing item off your list – the San Diego Zoo! After a small hike, we dined on delicious food with rhinos, zebras, koalas, kangaroos and a talking parrot!
Tuesday was our first official day of sessions. The Coronado Naval Base Color Guard and the Soaring Eagles started our morning off on the right foot. It was great that everyone got up and out of their seats for the round dance! It woke us up and warmed up that cool conference room!
Sessions that day covered the LIHTC program, the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program, rehab projects, a case study with the Bad River Housing Authority (thanks again for participating!), the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development, a low income housing design tour around San Diego, and our keynote speaker, Matika Wilbur!
Matika is so full of life and giggles! Her talk described her passion for her work and her photos showed her amazing talent. We’re so happy she could join us and tell her stories from the road for Project 562. We hope you all enjoyed the beautiful print as much as we did. I need to find a frame to hang it in my office!
On the second day of sessions we covered procurement, a new construction project case study with Yavapai-Apache Nation Tribal Housing (thanks for participating!), the design charette process, housing compliance and investor perspectives.
Our last day was spent covering all phases of a project, presenting projects to stakeholders, QAPs and current events.
Remember, if there are any sessions you’d like to look over again, the link is listed in your conference booklet. We’re also here for any questions you may have.
Thanks again for a great week! We’ll be announcing next year’s location and date as soon as possible!
Thank you,
Travois
