The theme of our 12th Annual Indian Country Affordable Housing & Economic Development Conference is “Building Healthy Communities.”
This year we invited local artist to showcase and sell their work to attendees, and we’ve been thrilled that seven artists have signed up! Read about them here.
While coordinating all of the details with these artists, I discovered the important contributions artists make to healthy and vibrant communities. Each artist sent in biographical information, and story after story revealed their positive impacts on their communities.
Many of the artists:
- teach their trade to children in their communities.
- were taught their craft through family businesses.
- have been honored for their work on community projects.
- pass on cultural history and significance from generation to generation.
- volunteer their time and resources.
- teach that sobriety is the way to a successful life.
One artist, Louis D. Valenzuela, has published a powerful personal story on his website. Read his biography to see how leading a healthy lifestyle has “allowed his creative gift to come forth into the world.”
We hope you are able to join us at our conference to meet these artists in person and learn more about building healthy communities.
