Today we are excited to highlight and tell you more about our next two superheroes, Angela Christy and Darryl Jacobs, who are both distinguished attorneys. We’ll feature the remaining winners in the coming weeks in our six-part series.
Angela Christy, attorney with Faegre Baker Daniels – Advocate Housing Superhero
Angela Christy is someone who has used her skills and experience to bring more capital to affordable housing in Native communities. Angela was key in making the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program work in Indian Country when Travois was founded 20 years ago. A tax credit guru, she is known not only for her work on tax credit developments in Indian Country, but also as an industry veteran who has worked on more than 250 tax credit transactions across the entire United States. She has provided legal services to more tribal tax credit developments than any other attorney by a wide margin.
Along with my father, David Bland, who started Travois, Angela worked to ensure that NAHASDA funding is compatible with tax credits, an idea that initially faced significant pushback in the industry. She has been recognized as a top woman in finance and as one of America’s Best Lawyers in real estate law. Angela has been an incredible advocate for Indian Country affordable housing for more than two decades.
Darryl Jacobs, attorney with Ginsberg Jacobs – Advocate Economic Development Superhero
Darryl Jacobs has used his skills and experience to help bring more capital to economic development in Native communities and has been crucial to the success of the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program in Indian Country. His willingness to think outside of the box to bring capital to tribal economic development projects has resulted in millions of dollars flowing to tribal reservations.
For more than 20 years, he has been regarded as the go-to attorney to get things done. Darryl is a Harvard graduate and a math genius as well. He finished in the top 5 percent of CPA exam finishers when he received his certification.
We congratulate and thank Angela and Darryl for their dedication and hard work!
