The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Housing Authority (LLHA) received good news last week from Minnesota Housing: Its application for tax credits to help fund the construction of new affordable homes was approved!
With this award, LLHA will build 30 new single-family homes, each with two-car detached garages, in Cass Lake, MN. The development will include 12 two-bedroom homes, 10 three-bedroom homes and eight four-bedroom homes. Four of the 30 homes will be set aside for previously homeless families.
At the time of the application, LLHA had a waiting list of more than 230 households in need of housing. These new homes will help fill some of that need.
The homes will be located in an area with a multitude of services. Residents will have access to the Leech Lake Tribal Transit, which has fixed routes and dial-a-ride options, for transportation to work, school, shopping, services, appointments and more. Notable services offered within proximity of the development include grocery stores, discount stores, restaurants, gas stations, police and fire services, a hospital, schools and community centers.
The homes are intended for homeownership after the compliance period elapses. Residents will have an opportunity to purchase their homes at affordable prices and become homeowners.
LLHA manages more than 500 homes on its reservation and used LIHTC funding for seven previous developments. This is its first LIHTC award since 2010. View photos from its last development.
We are thrilled to have played a part in this success and look forward to the day when happy families move into their new homes!
