Take action: Encourage your elected representatives to support tribal developments

Join Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.) in urging banks to invest in tribal affordable housing and economic development. Travois has worked with Rep. Herseth Sandlin to illustrate the great need for capital for tribal small businesses and the incredible demand for affordable housing on Indian reservations across the country.

Call your congressmen or women today and tell them to join Rep. Herseth Sandlin as a co-signor on a letter that will be sent to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency letting banks know they can get “extra credit” for investing on tribal land.

The OCC issued similar guidance in response to the economic hardship caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, in order to stimulate private investment in rebuilding efforts. We believe the economic conditions in many parts of Indian Country call for similar action.
