The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians is responsible for delivering high-quality public services and investing in new business opportunities for its community. With the Lac Vieux Desert Health Center, the band is accomplishing both goals. By partnering with Chickasaw Nation Community Development Endeavor (CNCDE), the band used New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) to finance this project.
The new health center will create and retain high-quality jobs. It will give band members access to state-of-the-art medical and dental care while also attracting patients and customers from surrounding communities.
Travois consulted with the band and CNCDE as the team put together a financial structure that attracted U.S. Bancorp Community Development Corporation as the NMTC investor. The health center will provide a boost to the local economy and much-needed services in the community.
