TOKA # 4

Gu Achi District, Arizona

“The need for this housing project is undeniable. The LIHTC program provides an unbeatable leveraging tool to help us stretch our resources. We are excited about embarking on another tax credit project. We have surrounded ourselves with a development team that will make this project a success.” – TOKA team

The Tohono O’odham Ki:Ki Association (TOKA) received an award of Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) from the Arizona Department of Housing to bring affordable housing to the Gu Achi community. TOKA is building 17 single-family homes and 12 townhome units.

Provided by TOKA, the video below walks us through a completed four-bedroom home designed by Travois architects.

The designs for the new units were inspired by Colonial Barrio architecture with vibrant colors, shaded areas, outdoor patio space, unique door and window frames and natural wood elements.

The project is also building a new recreation community building (see rendering below) to serve all residents of the Gu Achi community. The rec center will be the only of its kind in the area and will provide the community with a gym, workout equipment, fitness classes, locker rooms, an outdoor basketball court, a walking path, playground and covered picnic area.

Travois Design is the architect for the development.

Red Stone Equity Partners is the project investor.
