It’s basketball season, and we have a new blog series titled “Give and Go.” The series will share basketball news, stories and events from the communities where we work. Our hope is to provide a little distraction and entertainment, just as the sport itself does, through the cold winter months. First, an introduction of our authors:
Matthew Bland, asset manager for Travois New Markets, always had the skills to pay the bills, but never had the height to instill fright. At 5-10, he learned at a young age that his future was behind a desk crunching numbers in spreadsheets. He grew up in the Atlantic Coast Conference, better known as ACC country, cheering on the underdog Wake Forest University against rival powerhouses University of North Carolina and Duke University. His favorite team is the San Antonio Spurs.
Michael Bland, CDE manager for Travois New Markets, had the height to play with the big boys, but a lack of athleticism and coordination relegated him to a bench role. His looks draw comparisons to a young Phil Jackson and Pau Gasol, and his favorite post move is the skyhook.
Keep an eye out for roundball content in the coming weeks.
