Many communities in the United States are undergoing an uptick in the construction of new housing. Despite national policy efforts and individual innovations, health care costs also continue to rise. Travois sees huge market opportunity and great community need where those trends cross —senior communities in Indian Country.
According to a study by Harvard University and the AARP, the number of Americans over 80 years old in 2040 will be three times today’s number. As our parents and grandparents live longer, community development practitioners are looking for financial solutions to looming problems.
Travois is proud of its investment in assisted living. I have personal experience navigating the complicated world of assisted living and long-term care with my own parents. As the aging population grows, leaders in the public and private sector need to ensure that the number of safe, quality beds increases as well.
Beyond meeting this basic needs, it falls to all community leaders to innovate so that we can increase quality as we work to extend longevity.
If your community is planning a senior housing, assisted living or skilled nursing project, we want to hear from you. As we learn about new models developing in Native communities, we want to do whatever we can to share the best ideas and the best practices. We can work with our nationwide network of tax credit investors to help community leaders ensure their elders’ access to quality long-term options.
AS Director of Planning for the Seneca Nation we have struggled for several years regarding the need for Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing as a transition project.
We are also researching how NMTC would work for us, attended several webinars put putting together this project financing is still somewhat elusive.
Hello, Lucille – Thanks for getting back in touch with us. NMTC is a great fit for assisted living and skilled nursing concepts. We are always available to talk through issues with you and help you structure your project. Please contact me at pglynn@travois.com so we can continue the conversation.
