We are honored that the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) chose to celebrate its 40th anniversary in our hometown — and thrilled at the success of their annual convention and trade show. With more than 400 attendees, tribal housing practitioners met with experts in affordable housing and economic development and heard from tribal leaders including Kickapoo Tribal Chairman Steve Cadue and HUD Deputy Assistant Secretary Rodger Boyd.
Building on their reputation for providing excellent training and technical assistance, NAIHC offered dozens of informative and interactive sessions on topics ranging from Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) to pest management.
Travois was proud to share our experience and talk with tribes about their affordable housing needs and plans. We caught up with friends we’ve worked with over the last 19 years and made many new friends from as far away as Alaska and North Carolina.
NAIHC highlighted Kansas City’s reputation as a barbecue destination with a delicious spread at their awards reception Wednesday night at the Kansas City Power & Light District. It was a perfect summer evening listening to the Redmen Blues Band from Oklahoma and cheering on the night’s true stars — the 2013 Leadership Institute graduates.
2014 is milestone year and a year of transition for NAIHC. Members elected Sami Jo Difuntorum, executive director of the Siletz Housing Authority, their next chairwoman and thanked former chairwoman Cheryl Causley for her service.
Thank you NAIHC for visiting our hometown and providing us with such a wonderful week! Travois looks forward to supporting NAIHC in this next chapter!
