Certified Tribal Housing Professional
The Certified Tribal Housing Professional (CTHP) certification course is designed to equip Tribal housing professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively utilize the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program and NAHASDA. The three-day course covers the fundamentals of LIHTC, application processes, compliance requirements, and strategies for successful project implementation within Tribal communities.
Course objectives:
- To provide a thorough understanding of the LIHTC program and its benefits for Tribal housing projects.
- To explain the LIHTC application process, including eligibility criteria and documentation requirements.
- To explore the financial structuring of LIHTC projects, including leveraging additional funding sources.
- To highlight compliance and reporting requirements to maintain LIHTC benefits.
- To share best practices and case studies of successful LIHTC projects in tribal communities.
CTHP trainings are led by Crystal Banks-Mann, client engagement manager at Travois. This training benefits those employed in the following fields: Tribal housing professionals, including housing directors, project managers, financial officers, and other stakeholders involved in developing and managing affordable housing within Tribal communities.
By the end of this training course, Tribal housing professionals will be well-prepared to navigate the complexities of the LIHTC program and leverage it to develop and sustain affordable housing in their communities.

Each attendee will receive:

Certification:
Participants who successfully complete the course and pass the exam will receive a nationally recognized certification, demonstrating their proficiency in understanding and utilizing the LIHTC program for Tribal housing development.
Initial eligibility requirements:
- Attend authorized CTHP certification training
- Successfully pass the CTHP certification exam at the end of the CTHP compliance certification course
- Complete Certification of Work Experience
- Execute the CTHP Code of Professional Responsibility
Annual eligibility requirements:
- Complete 6 hours of LIHTC continuing education/training annually by December 31st – this may include:
- State sponsored trainings
- Travois sponsored trainings
- Travois conferences
- Trainings provided by nationally recognized trainers
- Provide documentation of attendance to Travois annually (certificate of attendance, certificate of completion, attendance letter or other event literature with official sponsor verification, stating topic, date, and number of hours in duration).
- Note that all continuing education must be completed during the renewal cycle for which it applies.
- Adhere to the Code of Professional Responsibility
