I like to count down the number of days in anticipation of big events — birthdays, vacations, holidays — and right now I’m looking forward to the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) Annual Convention and Trade Show in our hometown in June. If you’re planning on attending, or are still thinking about attending, I have some suggestions to get you excited during these next few weeks. Twenty-one days until you can taste our nationally ranked barbeque ribs. Twenty-one days until you see the Kansas City Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals at Kauffman Stadium. Twenty-one days until you catch up with friends from across the country. Twenty-one days until you learn all you ever want to know about tax credits. Maybe that last one is just for me.
Everyone at Travois is super excited to welcome our tribal housing partners to Kansas City. We’re happy to be the conference Turquoise sponsor and help NAIHC offer such an important opportunity to tribal housing professionals to get together and share their experiences and learn more.
Our office is only blocks from the conference hotel, and we’re looking forward to attending many of the excellent sessions NAIHC has planned. Speaking of, I encourage you to take a look at the agenda. There are many great speakers, and the conference promises to have something for everyone — whether you’re interested in policy, financing, economic development or design. There is still time to register if you haven’t already done so. Click here to register.
While you’re going to be busy attending all of the great sessions during the day, NAIHC has also organized a couple of great events scheduled before and after the conference sessions — we have a few Kansas City suggestions too.
NAIHC’s welcome and awards reception is Tuesday evening, and Wednesday morning is the Healthy Start Walk. Travois is happy to host a midway break during the walk. We’ll have lots of coffee for those of you who might need a little extra energy to complete that second half back to the hotel.
In your free time the rest of the week, we encourage you to check out a few venues that can only be found in Kansas City: the College Basketball Experience at Sprint Center, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, or the National World War I Museum.
Of course, we’ve also got a lot of really good barbecue too.
If you have a moment, stop by our office (only a few blocks from the conference hotel) and say hello. We’d love to take you to lunch or show you around town. Only 21 more days.
If you are attending this year’s NAIHC conference, be sure to follow our social media pages. The week of the conference, we will be posting helpful tips, restaurant suggestions, city attractions and more.
