WENɑSɡWӘLLɑʔɑW “Generations” Building (Quinault Taholah Generations Building)
The Quinault Indian Nation (QIN) is headquartered at the mouth of the Quinault River in Taholah, WA.
Historically prone to flooding, the community of Taholah is at increased risk of natural disasters as a result of climate change-related sea level rise. Most Taholah residents live in a low lying area near the river and coast.
Climate concerns coupled with a desire to address antiquated housing and community facilities drive QIN’s desire to move Taholah to higher ground. The first project of this multi-year relocation effort is the Generations Building.
The children’s programs and the Senior Program were identified as serving the most vulnerable populations in Taholah in case of disaster and assigned to the first new building to be built above the tsunami zone as a part of the Village Relocation Master Plan.
The 30,000 square foot building houses:
- QIN’s Head Start
- Early Head Start
- Day Care
- Senior Programs
- Adult Education
- Management Information Systems
- Recreation program
Chickasaw Nation Community Development Endeavor provided $11.55 million in NMTC allocation.
