After experiencing the full wrath of the polar vortex in northern Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and Michigan (with minus 39 degree wind chills) the previous week, I spent much of my time last week thawing out in Washington, D.C.

One key to Indian Country’s economic development is to build on our past successes.

I had the opportunity to represent one of our recent New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) projects — the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska Educare — at the National Development Council (NDC) Academy in Washington, D.C., this spring.

I was in Washington, D.C., this week to attend the National Council of State Housing Agencies’ 2013 HFA Institute. The conference is divided into four different modules, and I attended sessions dedicated to Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs).

For more than a year, Travois has donated our prominent billboard space to local nonprofits for six-month leases. (See past boards here). We want to help local nonprofits spread the word about the good work they are doing without having to pay for costly advertising space.

We’ve enjoyed blogging all year and are highlighting our favorite 15 blog posts of 2012, just in case you missed them.
In February, Travois New Markets was awarded a $70 million New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation.

During November each year, men around the U.S. and world grow moustaches to help raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

November is the time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions and histories of American Indians and Alaska Natives.

The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) initiated a nonpartisan campaign called Native Vote to promote voting in Indian Country.
