I recently had the pleasure of witnessing the Pascua Yaqui Tribe receive the Arizona Department of Housing’s 2014 Housing Hero Award for Tribal Initiatives.

Last week, I attended the Northwest Indian Housing Association’s (NWIHA) quarterly meeting and was fortunate enough to spend some time talking about housing opportunities with Diana Phair, executive director of the Lummi Housing Authority in Bellingham, WA.

I recently attended the Spokane Indian Housing Authority’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 13. The ribbon cutting was a celebration for the opening of the new pavilion that is a part of the tribe’s second Low Income Housing Tax Credit project.

Recently, I was lucky enough to visit the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana to tag along with the photographer shooting the Fort Peck Housing Authority’s second Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) project.
I have been involved with this project from beginning to end.

For the first time in history, California has awarded Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) to a tribal project. This breakthrough for Indian Country is coming from a pilot Native American set-aside.

The Bad River Housing Authority’s second

Recently, I visited Jeff Ackley of Sokaogon Chippewa Housing Authority (SCHA) on the construction site. Jeff and his team have one successful Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) project up and running, and they have two new projects in the works.

Last Wednesday was the last day of work at the San Carlos Housing Authority for Alonzo Lamas, the chief financial officer at the housing authority for 11 years, five months and five days, as Alonzo so meticulously pinpointed. Anyone who knows Alonzo will not be surprised by this attention to detail.

The Pascua Yaqui Tribe recently completed its new tribal administration building in Guadalupe, AZ.
