Pascua Yaqui #9

Pascua Yaqui Homes #9 received a 2022 Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) award from the from the Arizona Department of Housing. This development is the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s (PYT) ninth LIHTC project and will build 50 new apartment units on the Pascua Yaqui Reservation in Tucson, Arizona.

The five-story multifamily building will include 14 one-bedroom units, 26 two-bedroom units and 10 three-bedroom units. The new building will have a fitness center, rooftop terrace, covered parking, community space and a courtyard plaza to serve residents and community members.

Travois Design, project architect, included oversized windows, large balconies and interior corridor access in the design, and has incorporated several green building techniques to help lower energy use and costs. Each unit will have Energy Star appliances and high-efficiency energy systems. The building and covered parking are designed to support solar panel installation in the future.

The building is set to be ICC 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS) certified at the Silver level and have a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index rating of 65 or lower. A HERS Index score of 65 indicates optimal energy performance. The lower a building ranks on the HERS index, the better it is both financially and environmentally.

Pascua Yaqui Homes #9 is the third phase of a larger master-planned community on the Pascua Yaqui Reservation. The first phase, Pascua Yaqui Homes #7, includes 50 new single-family homes and the second phase, Pascua Yaqui Homes #8, consists of 27 new townhome units.
