In our second-to-last spotlight on our 20th Anniversary Superheroes, we’re highlighting the important work and leadership of three women who have made an enormous difference in their communities.

When it comes to New Markets Tax Credits (NMTCs), you and I know that Indian Country has the safest projects with the strongest impacts. Leaders in American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian communities are serving the lowest incomes with the highest needs by creating jobs and opportunities.

So far, we’ve recognized an executive director, two attorneys and two behind-the-scenes problem-solvers as part of our 20th Anniversary Superhero Awards. Today, we are focusing on the future.

At NAFOA’s recent conference in Boston, I stopped by the Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development table. I spoke to two representatives of the Division of Energy and Mineral Development.

Two weeks ago, Michael Bland, Brett Schwarz and I spent a few days with old friends and new contacts at the NAFOA’s Fall Finance & Tribal Economies Conference.
I had an especially good time speaking on a panel with our advisory board member Little Fawn Boland.

Going to the doctor’s office doesn’t sound like very much fun, does it? What does sound like fun? A car seat poncho making class? Yes. A basketball clinic? Definitely. Where is all of this fun stuff taking place? The Bad River Health and Wellness Center.

If you follow our Instagram feed, you know we get to travel to America’s most beautiful destinations. My colleagues can tell some great stories about hikes, rides and other ways they have explored with our clients.

I’m sure many of you are loading backpacks and packing lunches as summer winds down and school begins.
