Melanie Brewer recently transitioned to a new role as a project coordinator in our housing development department! For two years prior, Melanie was a key team player as an asset manager on the Travois Asset Management team.
Melanie will bring her talent and enthusiasm and also her asset management and compliance knowledge to our affordable housing team. I know Mike Price and his teammates will miss her contributions but are also happy to have a representative with their post-closing perspective in development.
Here’s what Melanie shared about her transition:
Q: How do your past experiences as an asset manager help you assist clients in your new role?
A: My experience helps me look at developments from the front-end and the back-end. I am able to listen to what the client wants and needs and then look at how the project idea would play out on the back-end with compliance. It’s useful in helping clients determine what compliance commitments they can make in the application to have a competitive project and be successful not only in an award of tax credits but also with managing their development down the road.
Q: How does your law degree and Tribal Lawyer Certificate help assist clients?
A: My education helps me look at project applications and closings in a thorough manner and breakdown projects step by step. I’ve learned to write efficiently and effectively when drafting application items and to understand what processes are necessary — from tribal resolutions to Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) approved leases — and everything in between.
Q: What clients accomplishments are you most proud of?
A: Wow! That’s a hard one. I am very proud of all of our clients for not only successfully winning tax credit awards but continuing to run successful Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) developments. Our clients are providing much-needed affordable housing in their communities across the country.
Q: Do have a message to our clients?
A: I am very excited and ready to help you to move forward with new developments.
Q: You’ve obviously been busy with work, but have you had time to find a new brunch spot with friends?
A: Yes! I did just try a new KC brunch spot pretty recently: Ollie’s Local. It was great!
I know Melanie will be a great addition to the team. Congratulations, Melanie!
