Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) announced the winners of the 2012 Apex Awards at its July 18 Board of Trustees meeting. Travois would like to congratulate Ben Hatfield with the Wichita Housing Authority (WHA) for receiving the 2012 Apex Award for Management of Affordable Housing.

Ben has served as WHA’s executive director since 1997. Over those years, he has successfully managed 99 Housing and Urban Development homes and developed 94 new housing units, utilizing a combination of Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Indian Housing Block Grant funds. (See above for photos of the new homes and amenities.)

In addition to new housing units, Ben led the construction of an indoor swimming pool and a 5,000-square-foot community facility that houses administrative space, a classroom/conference room, a computer lab, a library and gymnasium.

Ben’s leadership and vision have resulted in the true goal of all affordable housing — homes for families, the development of a community, and the opportunity for individuals to improve their lives.
