Recently, I visited Jeff Ackley of Sokaogon Chippewa Housing Authority (SCHA) on the construction site. Jeff and his team have one successful Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) project up and running, and they have two new projects in the works.

I like to count down the number of days in anticipation of big events — birthdays, vacations, holidays — and right now I’m looking forward to the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) Annual Convention and Trade Show in our hometown in June.

Last Wednesday was the last day of work at the San Carlos Housing Authority for Alonzo Lamas, the chief financial officer at the housing authority for 11 years, five months and five days, as Alonzo so meticulously pinpointed. Anyone who knows Alonzo will not be surprised by this attention to detail.

It’s been almost a year since Michelle J., her husband, Harry, and their two children, Jerwin and Amber, moved into their new home on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in San Carlos, Ariz.
