I have continued to enjoy the wonderful travel opportunities that come along with my role as a project coordinator. In 2017 and 2018, I went from coast to coast, from Washington, D.C., to Anchorage, Alaska. Check out some of my favorite photos from along the way!
Washington, D.C.
In 2017, I had the opportunity to attend the National American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC) and National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) conferences in Washington, D.C. Besides the usual sightseeing opportunities, the unique experience was visiting those gathered for the Rise With Standing Rock Native Nations March as part of the No Dakota Access pipeline (DAPL) protest on the National Mall. It was really inspirational to see the community support from people all across the country and from the residents of Washington, D.C., meeting and talking with them and gathering in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
Bryce Canyon, UT
Many of my travels have been to the Southwest, specifically southern Utah. I really make it a point to get out and explore the many national parks in the area. Bryce Canyon is one of my favorites and is only about an hour and a half from the Utah Paiute Tribal Housing Authority’s (UPTHA) Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) development.
San Francisco, CA
This year I have started to work with our California tribal clients, and it has been a really great experience. Leading up to our Tolowa Dee-ni’ Nation application, I traveled to the Bay Area with my co-worker, Adam Rose.
Zion National Park, UT
After another trip to Utah, I was able to hike in Zion National Park. The park is about an hour south of the Utah Paiute LIHTC Homes # 1 development and is another one of my favorite national parks.
Glacier National Park, MT
After a trip to Browning, Montana, to visit with Blackfeet Housing and to check out the progress on Blackfeet Homes #6, Adam Teefey and I explored Glacier National Park. (Have you noticed a trend yet with all of the national parks?)
Anchorage, AK
Finally, my most recent trip was to Anchorage, Alaska. In addition to California, I also began working with our Alaskan clients this year. On this trip, I met with the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation staff and learned more about the LIHTC application process in Alaska. While on site, I drove south of Anchorage, along the Cook Inlet and down into Girdwood. The colors of the changing leaves were spectacular!
